Mediator's Corner
In December of 1994, Riverside Elementary received a Maxi-Grant to train Peer Mediators to help children solve problems. We have been training mediators every year since! Fourth and Fifth grade students are trained to help other children solve problems. Two mediators are on duty at their recess time. They check to see if anyone has asked for a mediation by looking in the mediator box in our cafeteria. They then check with the disputants' (that's the kids with a problem) teacher to see if the children can mediate at this time. If they can, then mediators and disputants sit down and talk together.
Posters are up all over the school to help you. If you have a problem, you know where to go to get help. Please come to the mediators! Each one felt like you once. Mediators love to help because that is their job.
This year's mediators are all trained and ready to work. Just put your request for mediation in the box in the cafeteria and someone will be glad to help you with your problem!
