Fundamentals of Agriculture 1 credit Open to 9,10
This course develops the basic theories and principles involved in animal science, agribusiness, agriculture mechanics, and natural resource management. The FFA (Future Farmers of America) is also included.
Advanced Principles of Agriculture 1 credit Open to 10,11
Pre-requisite: Fundamentals of Agriculture
This course builds upon the fundamental skills in Agriculture Science to allow students to be active in advanced concepts regarding plant and animal science, agriculture mechanics and leadership development.
Agriculture Mechanics and Maintenance 1 credit Open to 11,12
This course includes standards to prepare students for operational procedures for a shop or a home environment. Students learn basic skills in areas ranging from welding and electricity to land measuring, and plumbing.
Greenhouse Management 1/2 credit Open to 11,12
This course is designed to develop basic skills and general knowledge of greenhouse operations. It includes standards regarding environmental needs of plants, government regulations of greenhouses, and management skills needed for successful greenhouse production.
Wildlife Management and Recreation 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
This course emphasizes the awareness of conservation and preservation of management practices utilized to ensure the sustainability of our outdoor resources. Integrated academics and experiential learning will build conservation awareness among students. This will, in turn, generate career interests and more responsible land ownership in the community in the 21st century.
Exterior/Interior Landscaping 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
This course includes standards to prepare students for creating aesthetic environments for homes and industries. As the population expands and economies grow, the demand for planned and creative exterior and interior landscapes increases. The desire for appropriate landscape materials and designs will grow in the 21st century.
Leadership Development 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
This course is recommended for FFA officers and officers from other student organizations. It will offer experiences that help prepare for participation in the leadership competition activities of FFA and the other student organizations. This course is designed to develop studies in leadership enhancement, personal growth, and career success.
Turf Grass Management 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
Turf grass is the most widely used ornamental crop in this country and is a multibillion-dollar-a-year business. The course will cover the history of turf grass in the country and the management techniques utilized today in various turf grass applications. Students will apply these techniques as they prepare for a career in turfgrass management.
Forestry 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
Forestry is designed to develop student knowledge or forestry technology as it progresses into the 21st century. The student will develop skills in producing, harvesting, marketing, and developing forestry products. Forests are one of the state's most valuable resources. If we are to enjoy their products in the future, they must be conserved today.
Agricultural Power and Equipment 1/2 credit Open to 10,11,12
This course includes basic information and laboratory activities or small engines, tractors, and agricultural equipment maintenance, repair, and overhaul. The standards address competencies for electrical motors, hydraulic systems, and fuel-powered engines.
