Success Skills Through Service Learning     1 Credit             Open to 9, 10, 11, 12

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive approach focusing on ethical, social, and intellectual skill development. Through direct service activities, students gain an understanding of human psychology, life skills, community needs and resources, civic responsibility, career options, and human diversity. Service-learning activities develop values of trustworthiness and responsibility to a commitment to the task itself and to those who are involved in it: collaboration and team-building; respect for the quality of work done; punctuality.

 

World Geography                                              1 Credit             Open to 9, 10, 11, 12

Students learn that map work is an important component in the study of geography. They learn that the location of countries in comparison to the United States is essential in helping to understand major problems. Geography also seeks to explore the cultural aspects and components of certain regions of areas of the countries and continents.

 

World History                                                    1 Credit             Open to 9, 10, 11, 12

This course studies the social, economic, political, and intellectual characteristics of human society. Emphasis is given to those men and women, movements, and ideas influencing the development of the modern world.

 

U.S. History                                                        1 Credit                        Open to 11, 12

This is an 11th grade course, required for graduation. It is a survey of the political, economical, social, cultural, and diplomatic phases of American life in regional, national, and international aspects from 1865 to the present.

 

U.S. Government                                              ½ Credit                              Open to 12

A survey of the national political system, this course is required for all seniors. Topics include the democratic theory, U.S. Constitution, federalism, socialization, public opinion, political parties, participation in election, civil liberties, the structure and functions of the branches of government and review of foreign and domestic policies.

 

Economics                                                         ½ Credit                              Open to 12

Required of all seniors, this course promotes an awareness of the economic systems, principles and theories. Also studied are government policies, trends in spending, systems of money and banking and the stock market.

 

Contemporary Issues                                   ½-1 Credit               Open to 10, 11, 12

This course is designed to examine those current events which affect society, individually and governmentally. This course is for students who desire an increased awareness of the world, politics and the daily news.

 

Great Moments in History                            ½-1 Credit                      Open to 11, 12

For students who enjoy history, this course takes an in-depth look at the turning points and "firsts" in U.S. History.

 

Military Science                                              ½-1 Credit                     Open to 11, 12

This course provides general information of the Armed Services and introduces basic military skills.

 

American Justice                                           ½-1 Credit               Open to 10, 11, 12

This course is a survey for the American criminal and civil justice system. It also covers the study of law and how it affects our lives and culture.

Psychology studies the science of the mind behaviors of individuals and groups.

 

Sociology                                                           ½ Credit                       Open to 11, 12

Sociology is a general survey of the nature of culture, the foundations of personality, socialization, and other processes.

Introductory course to the study of legal and protective service careers. This course is an overview of the legal justice system.
