Here is how third grade works at J. E. Woodard Elementary School:
We are so excited about our new school year!![]() We team-teach in third grade, and your child will be changing classes throughout the day. From 8:00-9:45, your child will remain with his/her
homeroom teacher for our Literacy block.
Our “specialty classes” (music, art, P.E., guidance, and library) are
from 9:45-10:35. Mrs. Estes will
be teaching all the Social Studies this year. Mrs. Hughes will teach all the Science. Your child will have these classes twice a
week. Mrs. Pollard will teach Math
to her class and Mrs. Estes’s class, while Mrs. Latta teaches her class
and Mrs. Hughes’s class Math. Mrs.
Belew will teach her own Math. These classes will meet
everyday. Your child will also have
classes in Language Skills (twice a week with Mrs. Belew), Computer Lab (once a
week with Mrs. Latta), Author Studies (once a week with Mrs. Estes), Science
Skills (once a week with Mrs. Hughes), and Creative Writing Skills (once a week
with Mrs. Pollard). These will be “non-graded”
activities. We will finish off each day
with a studytime from 2:30-3:00. During
this time, individual third grade teachers with also pull students who need
extra help in certain areas.
We will work together with you and your child to make this a wonderful experience for all of us. We ask that you check your child’s assignment book each night to be sure that their work is completed. The assignments must be completed the night that they are assigned. The assignments should be placed behind the proper dividers in their notebook. DO NOT REMOVE ANY PAPERS FROM BEHIND THE DIVIDERS OF YOUR CHILD’S NOTEBOOK. The teacher will handle any “cleaning out” that needs to be done. This will help insure that your child’s work does not “accidentally” become misplaced. “Welcome
to our third grade family,”
