J. E. Woodard Elementary School is located at the southern end of the Columbia city limits. It was the first newly-created school in Maury County in twenty years when it opened in August, 1990. It was named for Dr. James E. Woodard, a longtime member of the Maury County Board of Education. He served as Chairman of the board from 1971-1980. J. E. Woodard is a modern facility serving kindergarten through fifth grade. During its existence Woodard School has experienced steady growth. The beginning enrollment in 1990-91 of 495 students increased to a high of over 625 students in the 1999-2000 school year.

On the left is the plaque placed in the office when the school was built.

On the right is a Woodard 9th birthday celebration photo showing Mrs. J. E. Woodard presenting principal, Bonnie Rodgers, the shovel used by Dr. Woodard during initial groundbreaking ceremonies.

Beaman Bottling has been our Adopt-A-School partner since 1990. We appreciate their support.
