Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to
the fifth grade! My name is Julie Marbet
and I will be teaching fifth grade math this year. I am new to Woodard Elementary
and I am very excited to be here. I am equally excited about the opportunity to
get to know you, and I am looking forward to a fun and productive school year.
The following information should give everyone a better idea of what to expect
in my math class this year:

The Curriculum
|
The Curriculum- We
have a lot to learn in math class this year.
I have planned activities for each set of standards that I teach, therefore, we will be doing a lot of
collaborative learning, “hands-on” activities, and we will be having a lot of
fun! It is my goal to teach the
students how to apply these standards to every day life skills.
We will begin each class with a
review of multiplication facts and a review of the previous night’s homework
for extra reinforcement. During this
time the students will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they may
have or to ask for any extra help. We will follow this with class instruction, often
followed by a class activity, and then I will assign the homework lesson.
|
Homework Policy
|
Homework Policy-I
will not assign homework on Fridays. If
homework is turned in complete and on time, a star (sticker) will be put on the
homework chart next to that child’s name and under the completed
assignment. A 100 will be issued as a
homework grade at the end of each grading period if all assignments are
complete. Otherwise, points will be deducted
for each star that is missing from the homework chart.
All homework assignments should be
copied into the assignment book daily.
Students are responsible for copying their assignments each day. I encourage all parents to check these
assignment books daily, in order to ensure that the assignment is complete.
Daily assignments will remain posted for the entire week so that students who
have missed class can easily see what work they need to make up. Students will be given adequate time to make
up any missed work.
|
Test Policy:
| Test policy- At
the end of each chapter I will issue a test. I will send home a study guide in
order to prepare the students for the test.
The study guide will be given two days prior to the test to allow each child plenty of
opportunity to study and ask questions. |
Grading Policy:
|
Grading Policy-
All major test will be recorded two times and all quizzes and other class
assignments will be recorded once. A
homework grade will also be issued at the end of each grading period
|
Communication:
|
Communication- Each
student will have a math folder. All
graded assignments will be kept in this folder along with a grade sheet. Students will record their math grades, along
with any missing assignments, on this grade sheet. Folders will be sent home to be signed every
two weeks, in order to keep you better updated on your child’s progress in math
class.
|
Extra Reinforcement:
|
Extra Reinforcement-
Parents often ask me how they can strengthen their child’s math skills. I
believe that parental involvement is often a strong indicator of student success;
therefore, I encourage all parents to review multiplication facts at every
given opportunity. The ability to recall
these facts will provide a more solid foundation for the year and for the years
to follow. The majority of the skills
covered in my class are built upon the knowledge of these facts, so any extra
reinforcement would only benefit your child.

Julie Marbet
