Behavior Plan

I am delighted that your child is in my class this year.  We can look forward to many exciting and rewarding experiences as the year progresses.

As I firmly believe that life-long success depends on self-discipline, I have developed a classroom discipline plan that affords every student an opportunity to learn to manage his or her own behavior. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for academic growth.  Therefore, this plan will be in effect at all times.

Classroom Rules:

1. I can raise my hand and wait my turn to talk.
2. I can be quiet at work time.
3. I can keep my hands, feet and school tools to myself.
4. I can walk quietly in the school.
5. I can follow directions.

To encourage students to follow the classroom rules, I will reinforce appropriate behavior with daily stickers in your child’s notebook and treats from my treat jar. Broken rules will be recorded on the classroom behavior chart as follows:  If a student chooses to break a rule,

1) Warning – The child will move his name from the first level to the second, which indicates a warning and the opportunity to correct his/her behavior with the possibility of moving back to the good behavior level.

2) If the child continues to break rules, he or she loses the opportunity to move back to the good behavior level.  His/her name will be moved to the time-out level, and he will be required to give up a portion of recess, centers, or both, depending on the number of offenses.  He also loses his sticker and treat for the day.  Disruptive behavior might also result in and immediate time-out or being removed from the group. Parents will be notified on the behavior sheet in their child’s notebook if they reach this level.  They will also be informed of the rules that were broken.

3) Multiple infractions or severe disruptions will result in the child’s name reaching the “call home” level of the behavior chart, and parents will be called.
