These are our classroom rules for
Mrs. Pollard’s class:

I can be kind to others.

I can raise my hand to talk.

I can be quiet at work time.

I can walk in school.

I can follow directions.

I have created the following consequences for behavior.  Each third grade teacher has posted a set of rules in the classroom.  The consequences are similar for each classroom.

If the student has a smiley face  showing in the agenda, this means the appropriate behavior is being shown.

After the first offense, the student will be given a warning and lose 5 minutes of recess.

The second offense requires a conference with teacher and loss of 10 minutes of recess.

The third offense requires walking at recess and a note home.

The fourth offense requires the child to fill out a “think sheet” and it is sent home for your signature.

Severe Clause:  If the behavior is bad enough the child will call the parent or a standard letter will be sent by the principal.

Extreme Repeated Unacceptable Behavior (3): A conference will be set up for parent/teacher/student/administrator to discuss a behavior program.

For you to know daily how your child is behaving and what homework is assigned, please check agenda every night.

Below you will find a few things that you need to know to help make this a great year.

Assignment Book
Each child will have an assignment book. They will be responsible for writing down their assignments each day. You are to check the assignment book each night to see that each assignment is completed neatly.  After you have checked to see all assignments are complete, sign their assignment book. Feel free to write me notes in the assignment book. I check all assignments in the afternoon. These books are a very important communication tool between home and school.

Assignments/Homework
Because my life is as hectic as most, I do give ample time in class for the completion of most assignments. We have a scheduled afternoon study time every day from 2:30-3:00. Depending on your child’s work habits will depend on the amount of homework he/she may have. I expect all homework and class work to be turned in on time. Students will be given a homework grade based on whether it is completed. All students start with a 100, with 3 points deducted for each missing assignment. Each student will have a “study buddy”. This is the name and phone number of a child in our room that they can call to get assignments if needed. It is located in their assignment book.

Take- Home Folders
At least once a week, I will send Take-Home Folders home for you to check graded work, as well as, notes from myself or the office. The left side needs to be seen to and returned to school. The right side may be removed and kept.

Absences
If your child is absent, please have a friend or sibling bring home their work, or call the office. I will have their work sent up for you to pick up. It is very important that they keep up, and not get “overwhelmed” when they return to school.

Lunch Money
This year the lunchroom is taking lunch money only on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please send it in an envelope with your child’s name and my name on the outside.

Birthday Parties
Due to our tight schedule in third grade, birthday parties will be limited to 30 minutes at the end of the day (2:30-3:00). If you would like, you may send a snack for the class to school with your child. I would suggest a snack and drink only.

Ice Cream
Ice cream is bought during recess time. (50 cents)

Lunch Schedule
You are welcome to come and eat with your child. Our class eats at 11:30.

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions, comments, or concerns. I am free for conferences from 3:00 until 4:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. You may also call the office and leave a number, and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pollard
