MCPS BMI Data

Throughout the school year, Coordinated School Health conducts health screenings to students in selected grade levels:   K, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 9th grades.  Trained school personnel and qualified volunteers complete all screenings with strict adherence to the confidentiality of each student screened.  The following screenings are administered.

K, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grades: Blood Pressure, Vision, Hearing, Height/Weight, BMI (Body Mass Index)

9th Grade:  Blood Pressure,  Height/Weight – BMI (Body Mass Index)

Below are the results of the BMI screenings for the past five school years. School years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 results are still preliminary.

Because we screen students every other year, 2011-2012 results should be compared to 2009-2011 results.  Our Obese and Overweight goal for 2011-2012 was to reduce the 2009-2010 percentage by two percentage points for a a goal of 43%.  Priliminary results show 41% prevalence of overweight and obese students for 2011-2012.
