Mike Kinnard, Principal
Before becoming Principal, Mike Kinnard was the Assistant Principal at BCMS and the previous six years at Spring Hill Middle School, both as an English teacher and assistant principal. Before that, he spent three years working for Cheatham County Schools both as a high school English teacher and principal. Mr. Kinnard has 17 years with Maury County Schools. Mr. Kinnard has also worked as a teacher and coach at Columbia Academy High School and Lewis County High School. Mr. Kinnard has coached baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and golf. He is originally from Columbia and attended Baker Elementary, Whitthorne Middle, and Columbia Central. Mr. Kinnard did his undergraduate and master's level work at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN. He completed his Educational Specialist degree online through Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Kinnard and his wife Sharon have three children and ten grandchildren. His favorite hobbies include watching Cardinals' baseball and traveling.
Mellissa Deschamps, Assistant Principal
Mellissa graduated from Florida Southern College in 2001 and moved to TN to be with her family. After eight years in social work, she entered her career as a teacher in the 2011/12 school year. Mellissa taught 5th and 6th grade at Whitthorne Middle School for several years. She continued her master's level work in educational leadership and technology integration at Lipscomb University. She and her husband Nick have two children, Kacen and Karter.Kevin Chirco is joining Battle Creek Middle School after his family moved to Tennessee this past year. He graduated from Arizona State University and has spent the past three school years as an assistant principal at the elementary level. Prior to this, Mr. Chirco spent six years in the classroom teaching 3rd through 5th grade. Kevin and his wife Katie have two young children, Jackson and Charlotte. In his free time, he enjoys playing baseball and being outdoors.
