Attendance Awareness Month 2024 – Be Present, Be Powerful!
As part of the national Attendance Awareness Campaign, our district is proud to join schools and communities across the country in promoting the importance of consistent school attendance. This year’s theme, "Be Present, Be Powerful!", emphasizes that daily attendance is vital for students’ academic success, social development, and long-term achievement. Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing 10% or more of the school year, remains a growing challenge, particularly since the pandemic.
The 2024 campaign highlights five key messages to help reduce absenteeism:
- Address absences with care and support – Partner with students and families to understand and overcome barriers to regular attendance.
- Every day counts – Clearly communicate the impact of missing just two days a month, which can add up to lost learning opportunities.
- Build relationships – Foster trusting connections with families to create a sense of belonging at school.
- Support health and well-being – Encourage healthy habits and provide access to physical and emotional health resources to reduce preventable absences.
- Use data to drive solutions – Track and review chronic absence data to target support where it's needed most.
Join us this September in making attendance a community priority! Together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.
