Federal Programs Administered

  • Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) receives supplemental federal grant funds through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. The ESEA authorizes a number of grant programs targeted to meet the needs of students. 

    Each grant program has unique requirements, including how funds can be spent, when funds can be spent, and how funds must be managed. Below is a summary of the ESEA grant programs that MCPS currently receives and a brief description of how the funds from each grant must be spent.

    Title I

    The Title I, Part A program provides supplemental funding to support the instructional programs in public schools with high numbers of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards.     The Title I, Part D program provides supplemental funding for educational services for children and youth in local and state institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth so that such children and youth have the opportunity to meet the same challenging state academic content standards and challenging state student academic achievement standards that all children in the state are expected to meet. In the 2020-21 school year, Title I, Part D funds in MCPS supported the Tennessee Children's Home and the Middle Tennessee Juvenile Detention Center.

    Title II

    The Title II, Part A program provides funding to increase student academic achievement through the development and support of effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders, the increase in the number of effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders in the education field, and to provide minority students with greater access to these effective educators.

    Title III

    The Title III, Part A program provides supplemental funding to support English learners to attain English proficiency, achieve high academic success in English, and meet the same challenging state academic standards that all children are expected to meet. 

    Title IV

    The Title IV, Part A program provides funding to improve academic achievement by supporting and providing all students with access to a well-rounded education, improving school conditions for students' learning, and improving the use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.
