The City of Columbia will conduct a Special Census to accurately assess the population to secure vital resources for its residents. The Special Census will take place August through November 2024, with the opportunity for citizens to complete an online survey from August 6, 2024 through September 6, 2024, followed by door-to-door surveys from September 25, 2024 through November 14, 2024. This comprehensive undertaking aims to update demographic data crucial for various community planning and funding purposes.
Recognizing the critical role accurate population data plays in allocating resources, the City of Columbia has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct this Special Census. Columbia's population has tremendously grown since the previous conducted Census in 2020. The initiative seeks to ensure that every individual in Columbia is accounted for, thus enabling the government to secure essential funds for services that directly impact the community's well-being.
How Do I Respond to the Special Census?
In order to respond to the Special Census online you will need the 12-digit Census ID in the invitation mailed to your address by the United States Census Bureau. You will receive a total four invitations by mail with your 12-digit Census ID enclosed.
Once you have received your 12-digit ID you may respond online HERE. You will be able to respond online from August 6 - September 6, 2024. The Census Bureau estimates that completing the online questionnaire will take 10 minutes on average. By law, the Census Bureau must keep your information confidential and may only use your responses to produce statistics.
If you did not receive an invitation or are unable to respond online, a U.S. Census Bureau employee will visit your home to collect your answers in-person. Door-to-door surveys will be conducted from September 25 - November 14, 2024.
